Forestry and Wood Processing Industry Transformation Plan

The Forestry and Wood Processing Industry Transformation Plan was announced by the Minister of Forestry, Hon Stuart Nash on 30 November 2022.  The Plan is the culmination of two years of discussion and consultations between MPI/TUR and stakeholders including the New Zealand Timber Industry Federation (NZTIF).

NZTIF supports the aspirations for our sector as outlined in the Plan and we look forward to participating in the various working groups and consultations that are to take place about the details and specific programmes that will be developed and implemented in support of the Plan. We are particularly interested in the development of measures and projects that will support the growth and advancement of the New Zealand sawmilling industry, especially given the industry’s central role in the production of timber and solid wood products together with its role in the provision of materials that will support industries and activities such as bio-energy and uses of wood chip and other wood fibre to produce materials and resources that are able to substitute for materials and resources that are less sustainable.
