New Zealand Dri

New Zealand Dri (NZDri) is a quality assurance programme designed to ensure that timber is kiln dried in accordance with procedures that will produce timber in a state and condition which customers can use with confidence, especially when remanufactured into value added wooden products such as joinery, mouldings and furniture.

Why insist on NZDri?

In its green state timber can, through the process of natural drying, shrink and alter in shape, straightness and other characteristics. The kiln drying of timber involves the controlled use of heat and air flow to reduce moisture content without side effects of natural drying.

However kiln drying of timber is a precise process requiring controls to ensure that the resultant product does not contain characteristics which may cause problems for users. Such problems include case hardening, internal checking and cell collapse caused by improper procedures for kiln drying. NZDri licensees have attained the kiln drying standards as prescribed in the NZDri manual.
