One of the worst blizzards for 33 years prevented the conference scheduled for 21-23 June from going ahead.

Those who were unable to make it first time around now have the opportunity to take part in this exciting programme.

With top class speakers and topics of increasing importance to our industry this is a not to be missed event.

Those delegates previously registered for June will have their places automatically rolled over to the new dates.

Speaker Introductions ~ Each speaker will give a five minute introduction on who they are, their area of expertise and their pet hobby horse about the forest industry, where the opportunities are and how to take hold of them!

The Big Questions - This seminar will be facilitated by the NZTIF Board who will ask questions of our line up.

9.00am – Question 1 “… Or Get off the Pot� ~ Export log prices are firming, we struggle to compete with sawmills in low cost countries, our domestic market is full and compliance costs are strangling us - why bother?

9.45am – MORNING TEA

10.00am – Question 2 ~ Will there be enough of the right kind of logs in NZ and can we afford them? Where are international wood and chip prices heading anyway? Should NZ sawmillers face export price parity on logs only when export prices are rising? These are some of the most critical questions facing sawmillers today. Special focus and time will be afforded this issue.

12.45pm – Question 3 ~ Can we compete on the world stage, where will the real market action be and what are our big competitors up to?

1.30pm – Question 4 ~ Can we get it there? Shipping availability/cost trends for forest products - they are critical for our survival.
Lead Speaker: Vince Maroney

2.15pm – Question 5 ~ From an outsider’s point of view does the New Zealand forest industry have what it takes to compete (or the whole NZ manufacturing industry for that matter)? Would better government policies make much difference? How about getting serious about a South Pacific trading bloc? (Common currency, a full customs union between New Zealand, Australia and the Islands).

3.30pm – Question 6 ~ Climate change theology threatens as a huge global distortion to markets. What will the effect on the NZ industry be and how do we manage it? How can we get behind Roger and protect our supply and property rights?

4.30pm – Question 7 ~ With growing self-sufficiency and a flat market are there any opportunities left in Australia?

5.15pm – Question 8 ~ NZ treated pine - past winner. Is there a big future here or offshore or will we be regulated out of business?

7.00pm – EVENING PROGRAMME
Buses will take us to the picturesque Gibbston Valley Winery where we will descend into the caves for a tasting tour of some of Central Otago’s finest wines. A gourmet three course meal follows at the winery with entertainment provided by the hilarious “Len the Loser�.

SATURDAY, 27 October
A programme of leisure activities from fishing to skiing is available. In the evening we dine out informally.
